Happy Halloween

Today is a great holiday...for many reasons.

-the dressing up as anything or anyone for one night
-the candy
-the baking smells
-the pumpkin carving
-the fact that you just have to knock on one's door and boom you got candy
-the cider
-the pumpkin patch
-the spooky decor
-the movies
-the parties

It's just so fun.

Mr. makes fun of me for my love of this spooky holiday.

and you know what I say to that?

Boo!
this is bomb BTW. smells and feels delish.

have a happy scary night filled with a candy overload.

Spooky Halls.

I love Halloween.
It's been feeling a lot like Halloween besides the colorful leaves and crisp air.

so i tried making our house a little spooky.

tonight i was at tjs and all the halloween stuff was 50% OFF!

so i start looking through the rubble.

I was on my way out the door then I spot three racks full of spooky items...of course mr. is waiting in the car (he was filling up with gas at costco while i stopped in at tjs). anyways i'm feeling really rushed and everything is everywhere...half way falling off the shelves. so i reached back to look at this sign and out of nowhere a snow globe comes falling down onto my feet. sparkles, water, and glass all over my flip flops. i was really embarrassed because i have never been that person before. YOU know that person, the person the brakes something in a store. and you hear it and just roll your eyes like OH WOW. i grab my things and quickly head to check out. my foot really hurts and i look down and i got a small cut. i think oh it will be okay until i get home and stick a band-aid on it. the lady starts ringing me up and it still hurts and i look down and my whole foot is bloody and my flip flops have a puddle. i look around and ask the cashier for the paper towels behind her. i wrap my foot with paper towels and see the small cut was a tad deep. i limp to the car where mr. is waiting. he looks at me weird. he's on the phone with a co-worker. i lift up my foot right when i get in the car and he makes that face, the one that says, WHAT IN THE HECK HAPPENED in tjs?

i officially took one for the team at tjs...those sales will get ya.

okay so i put these skulls up and pippa slowwwwwly makes her way up to them. she was very hesitant (i think i spooked pip) she sniffs and backs away. backs far away. and stares deep into the eyes of the spooky sparkly skulls.
now the OTHER tj trader joe's is the best right now! well its great all year BUT the holiday season is when they get all the festive goodies in.

hope you all have a Halloween full of all treats and no tricks!!!

Birthday Dinner.

a month ago...this happened:

The Miskins (aka my cousin and her husband and baby) came down from Loma Linda for the evening to celebrate ANDREWWW. we had little b-day dinner party. it was the first night that we ate dinner outside since we moved in.

first night it wasn't over 90 degrees.
cheers to eating dinner outside all winter long.

this was so gooooood.

we take lighting candles very seriously. our faces crack me up. maybe it's the fire that brings on such concentration. who knows.

mr. was holding little asher when i asked HB to snap a classic b-day photo. she's like want one without the baby. whoops we forgot asher was in the photos... he added more of a cute factor that's for sure. so we took another one just so we didn't look like we were parents on mr.'s 25th birthday.

mr. loves, loves, loves ice cream pie. it's super easy to make. the crust i made from nutter butters. you can make the crust from chips ahoys or oreos too! chocolate peanut butter ice cream with layers of cookie dough ice cream  AND with leatherby's fudge and fentons caramel AND crushed oreos to top each layer. way bomb. way addicting, way depressing when you step on the scale the next day.

it was a great night.
simple&sweet.
dinner parties are the way to go.

...just ignore my homely look. i would have dressed up more or maybe even put on some makeup, but i was rushed grocery shopping, then cleaning, then cooking then looked at the clock and had 2.5 minutes to throw something on.

One Year Older.

Pippa turned ONE!!!!! and a month,
but we won't talk a out the fact that it took me a whole month to post about it.

we had a little partyyyyy for the big pup.
i made her a carrot cake. she loves carrots. i give her carrots as treats.
i had been "researching" doggie cakes and found this recipe.

it was an easy decision when it came to what flavor of cake i would be making, carrots&peanut butter with pink yogurt frosting. homegirl LOVES yogurt. this cake was super easy to make. the ingredients were super normal. nothing fancy. i thought it would be hard to make because it was for a dog. i thought the recipe would call for weird "dog" ingredients. turns out you can eat it. i tasted the batter.
not bad. not great.

here are the ingredients if your interested in making a cake for a special four-legged friend:

i made her a crown with stuff from from my "craft box". i got the inspiration from this youtube video:

(FIY her website/blog is really cute, strongly suggest stalking her and her fab ideas.)

i made some british cupcakes for the party... for us humans. they were royally delicious. what is it about homemade chocolate buttercream frosting that makes you want to eat yourself to a wheel chair.

side-note i had left over frosting and saved it to ice some brownies with for mutual.
oh my best brownies ever. ice it when they are hot and it melts into the brownies. then let them cool and add another layer. bomb.

we got pippa a bone and we talked to the shop lady and she said this bone would last!! i was a little skeptical and thought pippa will chew through it. well, well, well the shop lady wasn't right. it HAS lasted a whole month!! yahoo.

she hated wearing the crown and was being all fussy until the cake came out.
at that moment she forgot all about the fact that a "weird thing" was on her head.

she struggled with the crown. she was wondering why there was something on her head only until the moment when we brought out the cake.

we let her eat about half of the cake. saved the rest for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the following day.
i think i can speak for pippa and say it was one of the yummiest days of her one-year-old life.

at the end of this post you probably decided that i'm a crazy "dog lady" (cause i thought the same exact thing.) how did this happen? and to me, out of all people...i don't get it. i never really liked dogs. honestly.

i totally made a video. a month ago. tried uploading it a month ago. wouldn't upload. getting a little annoyed with YouTube and thinking of going over to vimeo soon.
