Tex-Mex.

so we were going to go to the hill country, but then all the cute bed & breakfast cottages were taken/don't allow one night stays. whoops, i guess last minute getaways don't work in fredricksburg.
so instead we decided to take a look in our own backyard. humble (pronounced ummmm-ble) is exactly what you see... very humble. nothing fancy about this suburb. it's got your basics.

whenever we go downtown we pass a grocery store (i heard about in an article about h-town) it's called Fiesta. we also pass this flea market & mexican bakery. whenever we pass i always think "i wonder what it's like inside" so finally we put the wondering to bed.
we were in for a real treat. we were the only white people. literally. i guess we shouldn't be surprised.
it was a total crack up. we both felt a little nervous & a little out of place.

-the flea market came first...
lots of car parts, watches, minnie mouse, virgin mary statues, underwear (really though), oh and the entire place smelt like taco bell mixed with lube-it.

i didn't take any photos inside cause i was a little worried...
-then Fiesta grocery store...
mexican flags, weird meat, cowboy boots, church's chicken in the store just in case ya got hungry grocery shopping, taco trucks in the parking lot, it was the cray cray...cause it had all your normal grocery store findings BUT mexifide.

-onto the mexican bakery down the road...security guard at the entrance (i guess they have some security problems), right when you entered you got a whiff of something your nostrils have never whiffed...not a good smell...not a bakery smell. i was totally confused what to get so i asked a girl making the bread what her favorite was...she looks at me and says no english. of course. ugh, really need to invest in rossetta stone. okay so we moved on with not knowing spanish and picked out a couple things only 39-85 CENTS...what a steal you can't get a donut for that price. then we got scared to eat them so we gave them to our sunday school class...haha...classic story: we hand them out to our 11 year olds and one kid takes a bite & makes a hilar face, then takes another one and says "next time can you bring donuts!"

-lastly headed to "downtown humble" aka deadtown humble. no joke main street looked like a scene from walking dead. at any moment i thought a cowboy zombie was going to pop out of a window! we thought it was suppose to be cute and charming...maybe back in 1957, who knows. so we went to the humble cafe thinking it was going to be amazing...and no shocker not good...the cornbread was cold...you just can't eat corn bread cold! crime.

so we got home to a LIZARD! in our house! a bright GREEN lizard.
welcome to texas.

Blueberry.

last friday i headed to the country to pick some blueberries.

it was one HOT day. it didn't even feel hot when we left, but by the time we got to the farm it was humid. the kids got over it in 10 minutes, but we kept picking until we got half a bucket then headed home. a snow cone bribe was helpful to keep the tears away. next time we go (if there is a next time, considering it's $2.50 a pound & when i went to the grocery store last night i saw 2 lbs for just $5.99, however the ones we picked were organic so if you're comparing organic prices picking is a steal) we will bring spray bottles, wear swim suits & spray off with the hose. we ate our fair share of  berries along our way because ya know donuts for breakfast don't fill you up, right?

i've been eating my berries all week. so yummy in cottage cheese & oatmeal with a dash of cinnamon.

random kids being cute
homegirl was an eating machine.
