in order to do so i need to start with wednesday night.
where there was a rhodes melt down on isle 4.
i may have or may not have voiced my opinions about rolls.
crumbles.
costco.
hot dogs.
just a few of the words thrown around that isle.
i nicely asked the cashier man where the rhodes rolls were located.
he looked at me and said "never heard of them!" and walked away.
wow. of course he hadn't.
wow.
wow.
wow.
then the opinions on rolls went down.
...
then we left that forsaken store and hit up target for some reassurance that thanksgiving dinner would go on.
the show must always go on.
target never/rarely lets you down. thank you target for knowing what rhodes rolls are and having last three bags left in stock.
so then we headed home to sleep knowing rhodes would be on our plates.
then we woke up to some muddy boys.
turkey bowl. woot woot.
while the cinnamon rolls baked i snacked on some sprinkles pumpkin cupcakes.
so delish for pre-breakfast.
then these babies popped out of the oven and changed our morning forever.
then the cooking began.
hours later we found ourselves rushing to throw on makeup with no time for hair so we just threw the iron in the bag and headed out the door to my cousin's in-laws who conveniently were out of town...lucky for us we had a vacant home ready to occupy.
i whisked eggs, sugar, and cream for...18 minutes (to be exact).
my hand was tingly after.
there were a few chocolate chips that didn't make the melt so i thought "a little crunch never hurt anyone"
and i was right. those chocolate chunks made the pie even better.
chocolate french silk pie...new fav.
then came time for that annual family thanksgiving pic.
and...yeah...that was an anxiety attack for some people.
i told the peeps we would be in to finish cooking in 10 minutes.
its the whipples...very impatient group of people.
sooooo that didn't happen.
my cousin tim decided to start the stuffing without me, i do admire being proactive BUT that resulted in this:
and this after 20 minutes of broiling. |
then once the stuffing got a little more...firm?
we headed back for some din din.
did you know that timing thanksgiving dinner is the hardest part?
timing every dish just right so everything is hot at the SAME exact TIME.
still haven't figured that one out.
mom?
after no good ones...we got one.
almost like fishing.
and here it is:
was it worth risking the stuffing?
hmmmm still trying to decide that one for myself.
after some serious ridicule the dinner was mightily tasty.
i didn't eat enough.
i didn't get leftovers.
i keep thinking about the fried turkey.
the best. ever.
thanks to tyler/mr.
loving life.
these pictures just crack me up.
the boyzzzz were loving life outside on lawn chair drinking some brewwwwskies from the root of henry weinhard's.
they had the best job. outside avoiding all of the hustle and bustle.
as i took some fashion phots of the cousin i had a few minutes to get some scenic shots.
the turkey carving.
iconic and classic.
i found these on my cam when i was uploading my memory card
(that my other cousin must have taken).
the pie list:
lemon meringue
banana cream
sour cream apple
razzleberry to our disappointment we learned (once we cut it) that it was an apple!
pumpkin
chocolate silk
i can't believe we all got together on thanksgiving.
it's so great we all live close so we didn't have to spend $$$$$ zillions on flights to go home.
so thankful for family that live close.
then day turned to night and it was black friday.
outlet malls everything 60% off at Jcrew....um OKAY.
peppermint hot cocoa anyone?
nothing makes you feel like christmas is getting closer then shoppers and starbucks.
bah humbug.
i don't like shopping with crowds of people. hence the reason i waited until noon to do target.
sorda gives you an adrenaline rush.
thanksgiving was hilar for many different reasons.
it was definitely a different experience (not having the meal cooked by my mom).
we all split up the dishes among the 14 whipples residing in some part of CA.
yet it still felt stressful.
weird. i know.
it was like so rushed?
we tried to make it to the theater for some hunger games, but we were running late. so we rushed.
rushed to clean up so we could time to eat pie.
then rushed eating pie...
for no movie.
sold out.
and then homeboy got sick (so we rushed home):
it went from an all time high of laughing till we cried at breakfast to a little rushed, to a lot rushed, and then it was over. big bummer because i felt like i had no time to just visit my fabulous fam.
you don't ever want time with the whipples to be rushed because they're the coolest.
what i have realized is that holidays should not be rushed.
these special days happen once a year, therefore they shouldn't be rushed.
so i am making a selfie note to NOT rush christmas...
that being said i can't wait to be home for christmas.
a whole 10 days wearing all those winter clothes packed away in the garage.
december 19th will be here before we know it.
i have a bucket list of things i want to do this month to enjoy this wonderful season!
until next time, enjoy those left overs.
we headed back for some din din.

and here it is:
and there was a half way good one...ya know where its almosttttt good besides one thing?
well in this case mr.'s mouth is just a little open from talking (saying "hurry before we are fried and served for dinner").
