Memorial Weekend.

our memorial weekend was pretty memorable.
and here is why:

we went to austin with our neighbors (who happen to be our friends! (yahoo for nice neighbors...we lucked out in the neighbor department!)
we flipped our canoe
got poison oak (for the first time)
ate at three different places for dinner
witnessed flash floods
oh and ate the best pie of my life. (we did a lot of eating, it's austin!.)

we drove to get some bbq....

NOT COOL!
after we saw the sign andrew says "wow didn't know we were in a third world country!...ugh...how can they run out of meat!?"

come to find out almost all bbq's in a-town sell out of their meat at 1pm!
note to self.
it was recommended to us to get in line around 8am!
EIGHT IN THE MORNING?
who feels like ribs for breakfast? um no one. or maybe one person i know (my brother).

after the disappointment of the "sold out" we hopped on over to ^^

funny story about this egg.
andrew was going to order just a plain burger. (like normal)
but then thanks to some peer pressure and a comment like "dude, this aint' burgerking!"
well it worked. and mr. finally reached out of his comfort zone and added on that egg and kept all the toppings intact...where they should be.

i love austin. maybe because it reminds me of home. a little piece of OR.
finally tried amy's ice cream. we got mexican vanilla & praline topping

during the last "meal" of the evening our whole conversation was about how & when we could have our own donut truck! no joke. we talked recipes, names, profits, expenses, taxes...blah, blah...food truck dreams. that's what happens when your in the burbs and there is no where good to eat.

this bite says it all. FULL. so full.

senior portrait>?

 cabin fever.

 best. pie. ever.
i don't even like pie.

now for some iphone pics!

we pulled up to austin starved, which was totally apart of the plan.
we wanted to start off with some famous BBQ...however that didn't go as planned.
do you know how mad hungry bbq-seeking people can get?
our plan fell apart BUT do not fear when you have a foodie in your car.
i through out a suggestion of BURGERS. at hopdoddy of course...the only place i have been to in austin. i knew it wouldn't fail us. and it didn't.
i don't even like burgers. i really don't. BUT now i LOVE them.
i secretly have a new devotion to the glorious american burger, fries, milkshake trio.
it should be called the holy trinity.

so after our meal we stopped by an olive & vinegar connoisseurs dream.
we tried olive oil from all over the world.
and when i say we i really mean WE.
mr. branch out whether it was from peer pressure or not.
he tried vinegar. you guys he tried something he "hates"
so proud of that husband of mine. (and his taste buds)

okay so the man helping us was hilar.
he knew all the in's and out's of olive oil.
he had this voice.
this really cool-could-listen-to-forever voice.
he wins best sales man.
he actually got mr. to THINK about getting a cool oil like blood orange.
say what!?

we got pictures of our pippa sleeping in the back seat with her cousin bartlett after their swim party!
she had fun with uncle christopher  & aunt bonnie!
she was so pooped after the weekend. she literally slept the entire next week.

andre doing what he does best.
keeping things "award winning"

we stayed at kelli's parent's friend's "cabin" it's a house but we call it a cabin for many reasons.
i mean it does look like a cabin from the inside right?
okay so the whole weekend it stormed in the night/ morning ....it was so cool for the first couple hours. then it got disruptive to sleep and lake plans.

have you ever been in a thunder storm?
it's so southern. i kept thinking "georgia is that you?" (inside joke with my brother)

we laid in bed listening to the rain the BIG chubby rain. the kinda rain where you feel like you're in a car wash. the kinda rain where you think about building an ark.

then BAM sunny.

we got a tour of kelli's dad's house...not just your normal house. he's an architect soooooo basically we found ourselves saying "how did he think of THIS"?
like stairs down to your shower? so many hidden little artistic details all over.

then we headed to the most memorable meal of all....
when you think of texas, this might be it?...
just ya know a store/restaurant.
get ya fishin poles and steak all in one place. texans know how to do it.

then i lost my flip flop...and we all put our thinking caps on.
how to retrieve a flop that is next to a snake in a river? hmmmm

and the idea of getting canoe was born.

i brought my phone to take pics to capture the moments.
welllllll...that didn't go as planned.
nearly lost my phone in a tragic boat flipping, sinking, near death experience.

wet, bit, scrapped, and a little tired.
blue bonnet cafe was just so TEXAS.
then it was onto SALT LICKS for some BBQ~ finally!
omg the turkey...THE TURKEY! the best. ever. (HB, tyler would have freaked over the turkey...thanksgiving fried vs smoked??)

our wonderful 4 year old friend took our photo while waiting for mom&dad
i felt like i was going to die in the prius.

after a stormy texas weekend i enjoyed my mug of hot tea (at check out i snuck that ^ little sucker in the bag of pies without mr. knowing...ya know how he get's about $3 items...i try to avoid those breaking the bank comments).

  1. All this food looks SO GOOD. So did Andre like the egg on top of the burger? Putting eggs on top of food is one of my favorite things ever. Yummmm
